Regional Plan Association, the City of Newark, and other civic and business groups are pushing a project to bring true transit access to Newark-Liberty International Airport (EWR) by extending the PATH system 1.8 miles from downtown Newark to the AirTrain station located on the Northeast Corridor (NEC). The anticipated $1 billion project would provide a direct link from Newark, Jersey City, Midtown and Lower Manhattan to the airport, serving an estimated 2.5 million riders when it opened. The project has been studied by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey and independently by Regional Plan Association.
