Structured Urban Development Partnerships
Real Estate Development
Summer 2012
Michael Gilliard, instructor
Creativity is a cornerstone of real estate development. When the scope of a project exceeds the capital or risk capacity of any single entity, the flexible entrepreneur can capitalize on the shared interests between dissimilar parties using a modular, scalable approach. This course began with fundamentals—financial analysis, market, zoning and policy—then explored two original cases—augmented by complimentary lectures from distinguished industry professionals—that focused on transactions in the United States, although the skills covered were universal. For the final class each group synthesized the course structure to produce a unique investment committee pitch for a significant urban development opportunity.
